Xenophobia: Tiwa Savage calls off upcoming show in South Africa
Nigeria’s music superstar, Tiwa Savage has announced the cancelation of her upcoming show billed for Johannesburg South Africa.
The singer whose show comes up on 21st September, made this known via her verified Twitter account in which she lamented “I refuse to watch the barbaric butchering of my people in SA”.
Tiwa Savage’s decision was triggered by the killings of Nigerians and other black foreigners in South Africa in a wave of xenophobic attacks since last week when a taxi driver was killed in Pretoria by an alleged drug peddler from Tanzania.
Foreign-owned businesses have been looted and torched in different parts of the country while the country’s police look on helplessly.
“This (the killings) is SICK. For this reason I will NOT be performing at the upcoming DSTV delicious Festival in Johannesburg on the 21st of September. My prayers are with all the victims and families affected by this,” she tweeted.
