One pilot lost his life when two Nigeria Air Force aircraft collided mid-air during a rehearsal preparatory to the 58th Independence anniversary celebration coming up on October 1.
Eye witnesses said the pilots of the aircrafts were showing their expertise when they collided and crashed close to a petrol station AA Rano Petrol Station in Kubwa Town
Officials of NAF had earlier confirmed the incident saying that none of the pilots died in the accident

The Director of Public Relations and Information (DOPRI), Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola stated; “I wish to confirm an air incident involving 2 Nigerian Air Force aircraft taking part in the rehearsals for the 58th Independence Day Celebrations. Thankfully no lives were lost,” Daramola said

However, the NAF was later to confirm that one of the pilots who successfully ejected from one of the F-7Ni aircraft that had earlier crashed in the FCT, has passed on.
Air Commodore Daramola, spokesman NAF said this in a statement on Friday in Abuja.
” It is with a heavy heart that I regretfully announce that one of the pilots who successfully ejected from one of the F-7Ni aircraft that crashed earlier today has passed on.
” May his soul rest in peace. Additional details on the incident will be communicated, ”Daramola said.
