Three persons were killed when gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen attacked Nzoro Council Ward of Guma Local Government Area, Benue State.
The attack reportedly occurred at about 5:00am on Sunday September 20, while the villagers were asleep in their houses.
Chairman of Guma LGA, Caleb Aba confirmed the attack on Tuesday September 22. According to him;
“They killed three people in all. Two persons including one of the victim was beheaded on the spot while the third person died at the hospital. Five of the injured were initially taken to teaching hospital Makurdi, where one died (third person) while two others are now in Gbajimba hospital. We identified them (attackers) as Fulani herders by the language they spoke and robes worn.”
Aba further disclosed that troops of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have restored calm in the area as they have taken over security of the community.
Spokesperson of the State Police Command, Catherine Anene who also confirmed the attack, said the command is yet to establish the identity of the gunmen.
