AFCON 2019: Nigeria move into quarter-final, beat Cameroon 3-2
Nigeria’s Super Eagles, Saturday, came from one goal behind title holders and their bitter rival, the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon, to clinch a quarter final ticket in the 2019 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.
The gallant Super Eagles scored twice in three minutes to come from behind and win a thrilling last-16 match 3-2 in Alexandria.
Odion Ighalo gave the Super Eagles a 19th minute lead, but the Indomitable Lions hit back with two goals in quick succession before half-time from Stephane Bahoken and Clinton Njie to take a 2-1 lead.
Ighalo, however, levelled again for Nigeria in the 63rd minute, before Alex Iwobi snatched the winner for the jubilant Super Eagles three minutes later.
With this win, Nigeria has earned a quarter-final place on Wednesday, against hosts Egypt or South Africa who play later on Saturday.
