Again, Buhari waxes sectional, says I gave Kano, Kaduna two ministerial slots for giving me highest votes

Restructure, Regress or Retard; Nigeria's Development Reality

President Buhari has, again, shown that electoral votes must determine how states can benefit from any government in power.

He revealed on Thursday that he gave Kano and Kaduna two ministerial slots because of the number of votes he got from the states in the 2019 Presidential election.

The President made this known during a courtesy visit to the Emir of Zazzau, Dr Shehu Idris at his palace in Zaria, Kaduna State.

It would be recalled that Buhari exhibited the same sentiment after the 2015 general election when he told Nigerians that states that did not vote for him should not expect much benefit from his government compared with states which did.

“Kaduna and Kano are the only two states I gave two substantive positions in my council. So, I have appreciated your votes and paid you back by giving you ministers of environment and finance”, he said.

The President gave assurance that he will ensure his new cabinet will work hard to make Nigeria better for the good of the country and for Nigerians.

“Before you push everything to me, I am just reminding you that I will do my best and I will make sure that the new cabinet is working for the good of Nigeria and Nigerians,” he said.

Buhari garnered 1,464,768 votes in Kano and 993,445 votes from Kaduna in the last Presidential elections, according to the INEC verdict.

However, the president received votes from all the states of the federation including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) even states where he was defeated.
