No fewer than eight persons including five female students, one teacher and two security guards were abducted by gunmen from a school, Tular Academy, in Moruba area in Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State.
The state Commissioner of Police, Adamu Usman who confirmed the incident, said the gunmen arrived the school at about 1:45 a.m. on Monday and carried out the attack.
According to Usman, the command did not get to know about the attack on time due to the bad telephone network in the area. He also blamed the porous nature of the school and poor location as factors that enabled the bandits to strike.
The commissioner, however, said efforts were being made to rescue the victims unhurt.
”We have since deployed Special Technical Squad and Armed Anti-Kidnapping Squad to identify areas with a view to rescuing the victims unhurt’’ the commissioner said.
