Bandits suspected to be hired assassins have killed the mobile policeman attached to a chieftain of the Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Michael Johnny.

The gunmen also killed the personal driver to Johnny who hails from Gbaramatu Kingdom in Warri South West Local Government Area of the state.

The incident occurred at Effurun Airport Junction in Uvwie council area of the state at about 11:12am on Sunday, July 4, after the driver and escort dropped the politician’s wife at an undisclosed church.

The gunmen were said to be after Chief Johnny and his wife but both of them were not in the red Venza Jeep when they struck.

The slain mobile policeman was first shot on his right hand to demobilized him before being shot on the head for second time by fleeing gunmen. Both operative and driver died on the spot.

The fleeing gunmen, who rode in a Yellow Lexus SUV during the attack, did not cart away any property including the official riffle of the deceased policeman.

Chief Johnny, an Ijaw leader, confirmed the incident to Sapele Oghenek Online via telephone, saying the fleeing hoodlums were after him and his family.

Delta state police command acting spokesperson, DSP Bright Edafe, who confirmed the incident said investigation is ongoing. He added that no one was kidnapped during the attack.
