Female students estimated to be over 30 have been abducted from the Federal Government College, Birnin Yauri in Kebbi State, following an attack by armed bandits.
According to sources that spoke to the media, a security operative was shot dead during the attack.
The attackers were said to have rode on motorcycles, storming the school from the neighboring Rijau forest in the early hours of Thursday. They reportedly overpowered the mobile policemen guarding the school.
At least 30 students and three teachers were abducted in the attack.
The Kebbi students abduct is the third known attack on a school in the country within three weeks. On May 30, pupils were abducted from an Islamic School in Tegina, Niger State. Two weeks later, bandits stormed the Nuhu Bamali Polytechnic in Kaduna State and abducted a number of students and lecturers
