The Bayero University Kano (BUK) Senate has approved the cancelation of the 2019-2020 sessions for all Undergraduate and Postgraduate programs in the institution.
The announcement was conveyed in a memo signed by the university registrar Fatima Binta-Mohammed, on Monday January 4.
BUK’s decision is coming barely two weeks after the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) suspended its nine-month old strike across public universities of the country.
It would be recalled that before ASUU went on its strike in March 2020, BUK had already completed its mid-semester break for first semester of 2019/2020 academic session for undergraduates, while the postgraduate students had just resumed for the session.
Bayero University has announced that a new academic session for undergraduates will begin on January 18, 2021 (first semester), while the second semester will begin on May 3, 2021.
The Postgraduates students are slated for January 18 as first semester, while the second semester will begin on June 1.
Apart from renaming the 2019/2020 session to 2020/2021, the senate also granted amnesty to Postgraduate students who were unable register within the time frame. They are required to do so before the new session commences.
