Emmanuel Ogbeche, editor of The Abuja Inquirer, a weekly newspaper, has emerged the winner of the Nigerian Union of Journalists Abuja Council chairmanship election which held on Saturday.
Ogbeche beat his only contender, Rafat Salami, a journalist with the Voice of Nigeria (VON), to clinch the office.
While Ogbeche was a one-time secretary of the council, Salami is a serving secretary of the council.
EducationTell gathered that Ogbeche’s election victory coincides with his wedding anniversary. He is married to another journalist, Chizoba Ogbeche, a senior journalist with the Blueprint Newspaper.
The election was devoid of violence, although there were claims that journalists of some media houses were disenfranchised by the electoral committee over issues bordering on non accreditation.
