A Karmo Grade I Area Court on Monday, discharged a 14-year-old girl accused of receiving stolen property.
The police arraigned the minor along with a 25-year old Security guard, Junior Omolawabi, who both reside at Angwan Cement Abuja, on charge of joint act and receiving stolen property.
While the minor pleaded guilty to the offence, Omolawabi denied committing the alleged offence.
The Judge, Inuwa Maiwada, discharged the minor girl, saying “she doesn’t know what she has done and still underage.”
Maiwada however, admitted Omolawabi to bail in the sum of N250, 000, with one surety in like sum.
Maiwada ordered that the surety must be reasonable, reliable and should reside within the court’s jurisdiction. .
The Judge adjourned the case until May 14, for hearing of the case filed against the security guard.
Earlier, the Police Prosecutor, Ijeoma Ukagha, told the court that one Oluwakemi Asogwa, who lives in the same address with the defendants, reported the matter at the Life Camp Police Station Abuja, on March 29.
Ukagha said that the complainant said that on March 28, she returned home to find that her room had been broken into.
He said that a the complainant discovered that her Ghana must-go bag, school bag and a suitcase containing provisions, DVD player and cash of N150, 000 were missing.
Ukagha told the court that police operatives searched and found the stolen items in the defendant’s apartment.
Ukagha said that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 79 and 317 of the Penal Code.
