The decomposing body of a murdered Senior Officer of the Nigerian Navy was discovered inside a shallow well in a village close to the Jaji military cantonment, Kaduna State.
The Officer, Commander Oluwayemisi Ogundana, the Commandant of Command Secondary School of the Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC), Jaji, with service number NN/ 2367, was declared missing last Friday.
She was, however, suspected to have been murdered by some known persons, including a staff of the college she presided over.
Two suspects, Mr Bernard Simon, a teacher at the Command Secondary School, Jaji and one Ibrahim Maman, a driver have already been arrested in connection to her murder. They are currently under investigation.
It was learnt that when the military officer was not seen, efforts were made to reach her through her telephone but it was discovered that the phone was left in her room which was locked.
“The door to her room was forced open because the phone was ringing inside the sitting room and efforts to reach her other numbers, failed,” a military source told the media,
Blood stains were reportedly observed on her beddings and clothes as well as on the floor from the bedroom to the bathroom. Her vehicle, a Toyota SUV was also missing.
It was learnt that authorities of the military in Jaji kept some of her immediate staff and family members under close observation which finally paid off when two persons were arrested in Zaria while trying to dispose of her car.
According to the story, On 16 Sept 19 at about 0900hrs, a civilian driver from Jaji packed a Toyota Highlander at AirProvost Squadron in Kaduna as a result of fuel shortage. He went outside the Base to get fuel but returned the next day to pick up the Jeep.
The AirPolice on getting information that the Jeep belonged to the missing Cdr in Jaji, arrested the driver and took him into custody. The civilian driver during interrogations confessed that, the Jeep was given to him to sell by someone in Jaji.
On 22 Sept 19 at about 0230hrs after several days of laying different ambushes for the main suspect in Jaji, one Mr Simon Bernard who happened to be a serving teacher and former PTA Chairman at AFCSC SEC SCH Jaji was apprehended.
He confessed killing the Comdt at Angwan Loya village in Jaji at about 0100hrs of 15 Sept 19. He claimed to be having extra marital affairs with the Comdt. He confessed to have perpetrated the act because the Comdt promised him 2.5 million naira and failed. He also confessed to have picked fights with the Comdt because she sacked him as PTA Chairman alongside other staff.
The recovered Toyota Highlander Jeep is currently parked at Air Police Gate in NAF BASE Kaduna while the team of AirPolice and NP have taken the suspects into custody as investigations continues.
The corpse of the murdered Naval officer was dismembered and put in a big sack before being dumped in the shallow well.
The deceased was married with three kids, who are in their Lagos residence with their father.
