English-born Ghanaian footballer drowns in US lake

English-born Ghanaian footballer, Derrick Otim has drowned in a lake in the United States.

The 24-year-old former Nottingham Forest midfielder reportedly drowned on Friday, July 3, in Lake Keowee, South Carolina.

In 2018, Lake Keowee was branded South Carolina’s “most deadly body of water” in a local news article which said 32 people had lost their lives there within 25 years.

Otim had trained with Forest Academy, before moving to America for university education four years ago.

The young footballer had recently graduated from Xavier University – and was claimed to have been visiting friends in South Carolina before his sudden death.

Nottingham Forest FC and his former teammates have been paying tributes to the star player, who they described as a ‘top lad.’
