FG, ASUU reach truce as FG agrees to pay union N70bn

FG to discourage health workers’ brain drain, to increase retirement age, hazard allowance

At last, there is hope for reopening of the country’s universities as the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the federal government have reached a truce.

ASUU has agreed to call off its strike which has lasted for 8 months following the federal government agreement to pay the union N70 billion.

The leadership of ASUU reached the decision on Friday, during a meeting with the government team led by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, in Abuja.

The FG conceded to increase the total payment to the ASUU to N70 billion.

The development is coming one week after the FG accepted the demand by the ASUU for exemption from the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS).
