The Federal Government has disclosed fresh plans to regulate the social media space to curtail fake news and hate speech.
The Minister of Communication and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed made this known on Tuesday, during a press conference in Abuja.
Mohammed said the Federal government will implement reforms in the broadcast industry and sanction any defaulting broadcast media.
According to him, the regulation will be in line with global best practices as obtainable in the United Kingdom, Singapore, and other countries.
Mohammed said no responsible government would sit back and allow activities such as fake news and hate speech, which is capable of setting the country on fire, to continue unchecked.
