FIFA Women World Cup: Super Falcons beat South Korea, eye next round
Nigeria’s Super Falcons have rekindled their hope of qualifying for the next round at the ongoing FIFA Women World Cup in France after beating their rival South Korea 2 – 0 on Wednesday.
An own goal from South Korean defender Kim Doyeon and a smooth solo goal from Nigeria’s Barcelona’s striker Asisat Oshoala were enough to wrap up the victory for Falcons.
The goal by Asisat makes her the second Nigerian to score in two different Women’s World Cup tournaments (2015 and 2019), after Rita Nwadike (1995 and 1999).
The win comes after the Super Falcons suffered a 3-0 loss to Norway in their opening game.
Nigeria will now face host nation France in their final group game with hope of making it to the knockout stages.
The match will take place on June 17 at Roazhon Park in Rennes.
