The Ogun State Government has warned residents in flood prone areas and waterways to relocate to safer grounds immediately.
The government which pointed out that the relocation should be temporarily, said the warning is against a prediction by the Nigeria Metrology Agency (NIMET), of flooding resulting from heavy downpour.
Commissioner for Environment, Hon Abiodun-Abudu Balogun gave the warning while addressing media at a press conference held at his Oke Mosan office.
He said residents living in flood plains and on waterways in some areas of Abeokuta South, Ijebu East, Ifo and Ogun waterside must relocate to safer grounds for their own safety and to avoid the loss of property.
Abudu-Balogun also listed those living in other areas such as canals and flood plains area in Lafenwa,Totoro, Ifo ,Ijebu-Ode ,Sagamu to also relocate to avoid the incessant flooding.
He said the state government also used the opportunity to appeal to people not to dump refuse in canals, waterways and roads to reduce the impact of the heavy rains, adding that government will continue to dredge to mitigate flooding.
