As protests over the brutal Minnesota Police officers killing of George Floyd rage in States across the United States, a GoFundMe campaign to help the Floyd’s family has raked in $1.9 million in less than 48 hours.
George Floyd, a black man was mindlessly murdered after a white Minneapolis police officer along with his three colleagues, forcefully kneeled on his neck during his arrest.
The campaign created by Floyd’s brother, Philonise Floyd, has received more than 72,000 donations totaling to $1.9 million as of Friday afternoon The target of the fund was to raise $1.5 million.
“This fund is established to cover funeral and burial expenses, mental and grief counseling, lodging and travel for all court proceedings, and to assist our family in the days to come as we continue to seek justice for George,” Philonise said on the donation page.
Minneapolis police officers, Derek Chauvin, who was filmed kneeling on Floyd’s neck, alongside Thomas Lane, Tou Thao, and J. Alexander Kueng, have all been fired in connection with his death. But no arrests have been made so far.
