Herdsmen abduct 9 travelers in Ondo, demand N100m

3 die as Fulani herdsmen attack Benue community

 

Gunmen suspected to be herders have abducted nine persons traveling from Lagos to Abuja along lsua highway in Akoko, South East area of Ondo State.

A family member of one of the victims, Bamidele Ojo, who confirmed the attack, said the victims were on board a Toyota Sienna space bus when they were ambushed by the herdsmen.  The victims were allegedly marched into the forest by their abductors after their vehicle was stopped on the highway.

Bamidele revealed that the abductors have reached out to the families of the abducted travelers and are demanding N100 million ransom.

The Ondo state police command spokesperson, Tee-Leo Ikoro, who confirmed the incident, said one of the victims has been rescued.

Ikoro said police detectives in the state were working with hunters, local vigilante, and two other agencies to ensure the release of the remaining eight victims.
