Barely two weeks after the Supreme Court pronounced APC’s Hope Uzodinma winner of the Imo State governorship election, in a controversial judgment, lawmakers in the state Assembly have started defecting to the APC.
Leading the pack of lawmakers now seen as fair weather legislators include the Speaker of the Imo state House of Assembly, Collins Chiji, and Eddy Obinna who represented Emeka Ihedioha’s constituency (Aboh Mbaise) in the Assembly.
Others are Uche Ogbuagu (Ikeduru); Dominic Ezerioha (Oru West); Chigozie Nwaneri(Oru East); Kanayo Onyemaechi (Owerri West); Kennedy Ibe (Obowo)’; and Onyemaechi Njoku (Ihitte/Uboma),
Chiji and the other defectors were elected on the platform of the PDP. They announced their defection during plenary on Tuesday.
Last week, the deputy Speaker of the state assembly, Okey Onyekamma, and eight other lawmakers defected to the APC.
Many Nigerians have described these lawmakers as fickle minded and self serving. Their action is coming on the heels of ousted Governor Emeka Ihedioha’s moves to review and upturn the Supreme Court judgment.
