Business mogul and former Governor of Abia State, Chief Orji Uzor Kalu, has called on Nigerians to make adequate investment in the education sector as well as adherence to the rule of law, saying they are crucial to peace in any society.
Kalu who made this call ahead of a planned peace walk on the theme: “Peace is Possible in Nigeria’’, said for Nigeria to have peaceful atmosphere, the judiciary must be given utmost priority and independence because a society cannot exist where there is no rule of law.
The peace walk was organised by Junior Chamber International (JCI) Ikoyi, an NGO, in partnership with Orji Uzor Kalu Foundation.
“When JCI came up with the Peace Walk, it was a very bad time to come to Abia State because the IPOB and the security agencies were having disagreement at that time.
“I asked them to come because they were not killing anybody, they were not talking about anybody, they were talking about peace and that peace is possible in Nigeria.
“All the political parties are not talking about how Nigeria will change, they are all talking about themselves, otherwise they cannot be killing to be in power,” he said.
Kalu said that the clamour for peace in the country would only be realized if government and citizens obey court orders and the laws of the land.
According to him, education was also paramount to peace and development of any society, calling for greater investment in education in the country.
According to him, government at all levels must more invest in education to bring equality across the country.
“You cannot have inequality in education in Nigeria and think of having peace. Education must spread across the North and South to bring about peace in the country,” he said.
The renown publisher called on the government, religious organisations, corporate bodies as well as individuals to invest more in the education sector.
