An irate mob on Thursday lynched an official of the Vehicle Inspector Office (VIO) after the official allegedly caused the death of three persons in Niger State.
The incident occurred in Mariga Local Government Area of the state.
Eye-witnesses said the VIO officer spotted three Fulani youths, namely; Malami Mohammed, Juli Musa and Dawa Ali, riding on an unregistered motorcycle. He ordered the motorcycle rider to stop for interrogation but he refused to stop.
The VIO officer was said to have given the trio a hot chase which ended on a tragic note. The young men reportedly ran into a moving trailer with registration No. FKJ 512 XW that was coming from Tegina- Kampani Bobi area. All three were crushed by the trailer and died instantly.
When the VIO official saw what had happened, realizing thathe was in danger as people were gathering the remains of the deceased youths, the officer took to his heels towards Kampani Bobi Police outstation for safety but was caught by irate mob and lynched.
The Niger state police command said it was investigating the matter and would bring all those involved in the dastardly act to book.
