Jigawa state governor, Badaru Abubakar has jailed an indigene of the state, Sabi’u Ibrahim Chamo over Facebook post he alleged, defamed him.
A chief magistrate’s court sitting in Dutse, the State capital sentenced Chamo, to six months in prison.
Chamo was arrested on December 24 and detained before he was dragged to court for failure to substantiate or retract the allegations he made on Facebook.
He had alleged that Gov. Abubakar had duped many APC aspirants by collecting their money to give them party tickets.
After the first information was read to him during the trial, Chamo pleaded guilty to the charge and the court sentenced him to six months in prison, with options of payment of N20,000 fine and 20 strokes of the cane to serve as a deterrent to others.
