Kidnapped Catholic priests regain freedom

Two Anambra State Catholic priests who were abducted last Saturday, in Ondo State, have regained their freedom after four days.

The two Catholic priests were kidnapped while travelling for a wedding engagement in Ondo State.

Rev. Fathers Felix Efobi and Josephat Nweke of the Catholic Diocese of Awka in Anambra State were released in the early hours of Wednesday.

It would be recalled that the duo were abducted along the Owo-Benin Road in Ose Local Council Area of the State.

The Ondo Catholic Diocese reportedly confirmed the release of the priests to newsmen on Wednesday afternoon.

“Yes, they have been released but I have not set eyes on them since morning,” a sourced was quoted.

The kidnappers were said to have demanded N100m as ransom. It was, however, not confirmed if the ransom was paid to the Kidnappers before the priests were freed.

The spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, Femi Joseph, could not be reached for comments when he was contacted on Wednesday.
