Barcelona striker, Lionel Messi has broken his tie with arch rival Cristiano Ronaldo for the most won Ballon d’Or, having clinched the coveted prize for the sixth time.
Messi, 32, beat Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk and Juventus’ Cristiano Ronaldo to win the award at a ceremony which took place in Paris on Monday night.
The football maestro has now become the first ever player to win the award on six occasions, having been tied with Ronaldo on five.
The Argentine and the Portuguese legends dominated the Ballon d’Or for a decade between 2008 and 2017.
