Ogun State governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has admonished tertiary institution to look beyond students fees for their Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).
The governor’s Special Adviser on Technical Education, Prof. Joseph Odemuyiwamade this known during a meeting of the Conference of Ogun State Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Polytechnics (COGSSANIP) in his office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
He disclosed that the release of N40m intervention fund by Ogun State governor, to DS Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic, Itori, for accreditation of some engineering courses in the school, is a gesture to standardise and promote engineering related courses.
Odemuyiwa said that the boosting of ICT institutions by the present administration was to provide necessary facilities needed for them to enhance technical and vocational education, adding that welfare of the staff was at the frontline agenda.
In his reaction, chairman of the association, Mr. Segun Muritala, said the Governor’s intervention on accreditation of the Higher National Diploma (HND) Engineering programmes, such as Computer Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering will be a blessing for intending youths who have interest in Engineering courses.
According to Muritala, part of the money would be used for the procurement of some laboratory equipment for HND Micro Biology students, pleading for the government to do more in order to take the institution to greater height.
