No fewer than ten worshippers may have lost their lives after a church building collapsed in Delta state.
Eyewitnesses said the building housing Salvation Ministry in Okpanam, Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State came crashing around 5:55pm on Tuesday, during a service.
Sympathiers who disclosed that it was the first the church building was being used said eight persons have been rescued unhurt while four persons were taken to the Asaba Specialist Hospital.
Top Delta Government functionaries, including Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Chief Patrick Ukah; Commissioner for Health, Dr Ononye Mordi; team of Red Cross officials and fire fighters were at the scene where community youths and a team of policemen were seen trying to carry out rescue operations.
At the scene of the incident, many worshippers, family members and sympathisers were seen in tears searching for their loved ones.
