A 51 year-old mechanic will be spending the next ten years of his life in jail for forging a tax clearance certificate.
An Upper Area Court 3, sitting in Kasuwan Nama in Jos, passed the sentence, Monday, on Iliyasu Mohammed.
The Judge, Yahaya Mohammed, who sentenced the convict, a resident of Bukuru, Jos-South LGA, to 10 years imprisonment, however gave him an option of fine in the sum of N100, 000 as a first offender.
The Prosecutor, Hadi Modibbo, had told the court that the case was reported on Jan. 4, at the Office of the State Security Service (SSS). He said the offence contravened Section 345 of the Penal Code Law.
Modibbo said that during the investigation by men of the SSS, the convict was arrested and charged to court.
“This man has been defrauding the Federal Government for long, he has high patronage from many businessmen across the state.”
On arraignment, the convict, pleaded guilty to the charge and he was sentenced.
