The Nigerian Army has waved an olive branch to the south east by changing its warlike operation from Python Dance to Atilogwu Udo.
Operation Python Dance or Egwu Eke which the Army introduced in the wake of the agitation of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in 2016 sent wave of terror and fear in the region while it lasted.
When the army announced another spell of operation Python Dance, it did not go down well with the indigenes of the south east. The change of name of the operation has given indication that the operation will change in tactics.
The Nigerian Army Operations Media Coordinator, Col Aminu Iliyasu, in a statement said, ‘the exercise is designed to combat criminal activities including kidnappings, armed robbery, inter-cult and communal clashes among other sundry crimes’.
The annual training exercise has claimed remarkable successes since its introduction. Atilogwu Udo is an Igbo expression which can be translated as dance of peace.
