Nigerians from all works of life have expressed shock over the erection of a giant broom, a logo of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), right in front of the Abuja City Gate.
Many Nigerians, who took to the social media to react to the development, noted that the APC is taking its campaign for re-election too far, undermining the fact that not all Abuja residents are supporters of the party.
Others drew allusion to the broom as one of the symbol of witchcraft, and averred that the erection of the massive broom right at the gate of the Abuja city may be a surreptitious initiation of the city and its residents into the witchcraft cult.
While calling on the authorities of the FCTA to order the immediate dismantling of the broom and issue anunreserved apologies to FCT residents, the people stressed that the erection of a massive broom will not determine where the pendulum of votes will swing to.
“Unless the ruling APC government is telling Abuja residents that they have forcefully grafted everyone into their party, there is no reason why the party should erect such a massive broom at the city gate. If all the parties in the country decide to erect their logo at the city gate, imagine how the FCT will look like.
“I am joining other Nigerians to tell the APC to dismantle this scary image that is defacing the city gate. They must not take electioneering campaign to a ridiculous height,” one respondent, Tony said.
Another Nigerian commented that the broom evokes the image of the broom used by witches to fly at night. “APC is beginning to scare me. Why are they erecting a massive broom in front of Abuja’s gate? Do they not know that the broom is one of the symbols of witchcraft? That broom makes zero sense to Abuja’s gate and adds zero value to APC’s re-election bid. It is nonsense”.
Other Nigerians called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate the funding of the erection of the giant broom, stressing that the APC may have exceeded its funding limits by erecting that broom.
