The Ogun State Government has called on artisans in the state to enhance their skill to meet up with the new trend of technology.
The Special Adviser to the governor on Technical Education, Prof. Joseph Odemuyiwa made the call during a general meeting held with members of the Association of Skilled and Vocational Artisans of Nigeria (ASVAN) in Abeokuta, the state capital.
Odemuyiwa explained that the skill enhancing programme would expose the artisans to modern equipment to enable them grow their trades and qualify them for State contracts.
The Special Adviser said that education without craftsmanship was not enough for self-sustenance and self-reliance, while encouraging the undergraduates to engage in skill acquisition programme alongside their studies.
In their responses two artisans, Mr. Isikilu Aroyewun and Alhaja Alimat Kosoko appealed to the State government to engage them in building construction and some other craft works, saying that government should shun the act of bringing in outsiders and foreigners for the works that could be handled by the State artisans.
