Ogun State community demands inclusion in State’s agric programme

Flooding; Ogun warns residents to relocate


A community in Ogun State, the Oni host community, in Ogun Waterside Area, has called on the State Government to include her in the Agricultural courses at Gateway Industrial and Petrol-Gas Institute (GIPI) in order to complete the existing courses in the Institution.

The request was made during a courtesy call by the community monarch, His Royal Majesty Oba Abdul-Fatai Obitoye, the Oloni of Oni kingdom (Adegoroye 1) to the office of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Technical Education, Prof Joseph Odemuyiwa at his office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, the state capital.

The Community, spokesperson, also the Registrar, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Dr. Bola Adekola, noted that an expansion of Gateway Industrial and Petro-Gas Institute (GIPI) Oni, to cover Agricultural  courses could be of benefit to the commoners in the community, noting that such courses would promote vocation and entrepreneurship that would generate employment for the youths.

According to him, Agriculture is a demand-driven course in the entire Ogun Waterside Area which will encourage and attract the young ones of Oni community to study at the institution, and such initiative will also help the Agricultural mission of the Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration.

In his response, Prof. Odemuyiwa commended the Royal father and his team for their concern and interest to share in the mission of the State Government on eradicating poverty and unemployment issues through Agriculture.

He assured them that the State Government would give them positive response since it was within the interest of the Governor to develop vocational education for employment.

Appreciating the Governor, Oba Obitoye, hailed the Government for being a listening one, promising that the entire Oni kingdom would partner with the present administration on its Agricultural policy.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology Mrs. Abosede Ogunleye and the acting Rector, Gateway Industrial and Petrol-Gas Institute, Engnr. ‘Ladi Alebiosu, in their remarks, said the Oni community has done a lot to promote Government’s agenda on poverty eradication in the State, promising to make all government policies and agendas realistic ones.
