Three police operatives attached to the Edo State police command have been dismissed from service and also remanded in prison custody for allegedly stealing two AK 47 belonging to the Police Force.
The suspects, Uzor Emmanuel 34, Akharamen Michael 31 and Jimoh Halilu 27 were found guilty of stealing the two AK 47 rifles valued at N1.7m after being subjected to an orderly room trial.
It was learnt that the two fully-loaded AK-47 rifles assigned to Michael and Jimoh were stolen from Sergeant Uzor by 2am, after he went to Obodo Guest House at Uwasota Road in Ugbowo area of Benin City with a lady friend after he closed from duty on July 17.
Arraigned on three count charges of conspiracy and stealing, the three policemen were accused of stealing two AK 47 rifles with Breach No’s, 11479 with twenty-five rounds of live ammunition and Breach No, 05766 with nine rounds of live ammunition valued at N1, 7 million, property of the Nigeria Police Force, Edo State Police Command.
The police prosecutor, SP. Peter Ugbumba reportedly alleged that the dismissed police officers who had an intent to felonious and heinous crimes to wit armed robbery, kidnapping, murder etc, did intentionally, knowingly and unlawfully kept in their possession and control the two AK 47 rifles with the live ammunition.
