The Chairman of the Rivers state Senior Secondary Schools’ Board (SSSB), Mr. David Briggs, has warned principals to desist from collecting illegal fees from students.
Briggs gave the warning Thursday when he spoke with newsmen in Port Harcourt stressing that the board was against the collection of all forms of illegal fees and levies.
He said the board had put measures in place to track principals who were in the habit of collecting unauthorised fees from students.
“As a board, we have repeatedly cautioned principals against illegal imposition of fees and levies on students.
“Principals found culpable of such acts cannot escape the wrath of the board, we are against corruption,” he said.
Briggs called on parents to report principals who compel students to pay unauthorised fees to the board.
“The Nyesom Wike-led government operates a system that supports low income earners to enjoy education, we must all key into this policy,’’ he said.
The collection of illegal fees by some principals has continued to deter many children from low income families from enrolling in public schools.
