A Chief Magistrate Court, sitting in Jos Metropolitan Development Board (JMDB), on Thursday, sentenced a 49-year-old watchman, Emmanuel Marvelous, to one year in prison for breach of trust and cheating.
The Judge, Roseline Baraje, sentenced Marvelous to one year imprisonment for breach of trust with an option of N10, 000 fine; and another one year imprisonment for cheating with an option of N10, 000 fine, both to run concurrently.
Baraje also ordered that N200, 000 be paid to the complainant as compensation and in default of payment, the defendant would serve one year imprisonment.
She, however, said that the judgment would serve as deterrent to others who would want to indulge in such act.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Ezekiel Galadima, told the court that the case was reported on Jan. 22, at the `A’ Division Police Station by Abel Adams of Building Materials, who is the complainant.
Galadima said that the accused was given a generator worth N200, 000 to keep but converted it to his own personal use and later sold it for N15, 000 to an unknown person, who is now at large.
On arraignment, he pleaded guilty to the two-count charge which the prosecutor said contravened Sections 297 and 307 of Plateau State Penal Code Law.
