Teacher lands in jail for raping his underage student

 

….May get life imprisonment

A 29-year old classroom teacher, David Ikejiobi, has been relocated to Kirikiri Prison in Lagos for serially raping one of his students, a 13-year-old girl.

An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court remanded teacher Ikejiobi in prison, Thursday, after the case was brought before the Chief Magisrate, Mr. P.N Nwaka, pending the next adjourned date for mention, Sept. 3.

Chief Magistrate Nwaka, had refused to take the plea of the accused who resided at 13, Kekereowo St., Ilasamaja, Lagos and remanded him in Kirikiri Prison.

The prosecuting police officer, Mr. Christopher John had told the court that the offence was committed sometime in March at 25, Abiola Alao Str. Ijeshatedo, Lagos.

According to John, teacher Ikejiobi understood the arrangement in the little girl’s family and took advantage of it. He was always following her home after school.

His words, “The girl’s guardian used to come home in the evening and the girl gets home before them and opens the door with the extra key with her.

“The accused knew about the arrangement and follows her to her house. He raped the girl on three different occasions and always warned the girl not to tell anyone”.

John further disclosed that it was the girl’s grandmother who noticed some changes in her behaviour when she went to spend her holidays with her and the grandmother asked some questions.

“It was then the girl opened up to the grandmother and told her about the abuse by the teacher.”

If found guilty, teacher Ikejiobi will be spending the rest of his life in his new abode, Kirikiri Prison, since, according to the Lagos State law, the offence contravened Section 259 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 which attracts life imprisonment.
