The University of Abuja, (UNIABUJA) management on Saturday gave a farewell ceremony to the outgoing Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Michael Adikwu.
Chairman Governing Council of the institution, Alhaji Sani Maikudi, said the school had witnessed all-round improvement in terms of physical and academic development in the five years spent by Prof. Adikwu.
“On behalf of the governing council and management, we say thank you for all what you have done for the institution,” Maikudi said.
Earlier, Vice Chancellor Academic, Prof Clement Alawa, commended Adikwu for a job well-done, saying his record speaks for itself.
President of the Student Union Government of the institution, Mr. Suleiman Rabiu, in his remark, said the students would remember the VC for his excellent performance.
He affirmed that Adikwu was a VC of the students and for the students, saying that before now the institution was rated 105 by the National University Commission (NUC), but now it is at number nine.
“This was achieved by his passion, focus and hard work. The students appreciate you for bringing back SUG to life in the institution,” he said.
Delivering his farewell address, Adikwu thanked members of staff of the university for their support and cooperation which, he said, enabled him to achieve success.
He urged both staff and students to love one another and be their brothers’ keepers.
Registrar of the institution, Mrs Rifkatu Swanta, also urged all members of staff to emulate the outgoing Vice Chancellor by contributing their quarter to its growth and development.
“We need a peaceful cohabitation and if we do the needful following his example, then in the next five years, we will be better than where we are today,” she said.
Swanta called on the staff to give their support to the incoming VC averring that it is better to build on success than to maintain it.
