For the first time in its 45 year of existence, the University of Calabar has appointed its first female Vice Chancellor, Prof. Florence Obi.
The one-time deputy Vice-Chancellor of the institution emerged victorious as the university’s 11th vice chancellor over twelve others who were eminently qualified as well.
Chairman of the University Governing Council and the Pro-Chancellor, Senator Nkechi Nwaogu who made the announcement, said the governing council was guided by the guidelines for the screening of a vice-chancellor as provided by the federal ministry of education.
She also affirmed that the screening exercise was transparent, free and fair to all participants.
It was learnt that Obi who contested for the same position in 2015 but lost, is expected to resume duty on December 1, 2020.
