A 15-year-old lad,David Okorogheye, whose performance at the recent WACE and JAMB examinations went viral having had very high scores has been denied admission by the prestigious University of Lagos.
Okorogheye, an indigene of Warri in Delta state, had 336 in JAMB and 9As, in WAEC wanted to study Medicine as choice of course with UNILAG as his university of choice. But the institution denied him admission saying, he did not meet the age requirement.

According to the school’s policy, a candidate must be 16 years before he/she can be offered admission into UNILAG. As a result, David was not allowed to participate in the post UTME exams. UNILAG told him to try again next year when he comes of age.
The development was said to have enraged many Nigerians who felt that for a young lad to have shown such exceptional qualities, a waiver could have been considered for him.
Some of them cited situations in some advanced countries where exceptionally brilliant young boys and girls have become professors at much tender age. UNILAG authorities,however, said the law must be followed.

David, who hopes to become a neurosurgeon, has resigned himself to fate and is expected to try again next year to study his choice of course.
David’s interest in the medical profession was reportedly, evoked after he watched doctors battle to save the life of his late father when he was just eight years old. Since then, David vowed to study medicine so he can save lives. He said he will not let this minor setback stop him.
