The founder and Chancellor of the Landmark University, Omu Aran, Kwara State, Bishop Dr. David Oyedepo has said that Nigerians do not live according to the letters and spirit of the country’s National Anthem.
Oyedepo made the remark at the weekend, during his keynote address at the Landmark University 2nd matriculation ceremony for Post-graduate Degree programmes and 10th Matriculation ceremony for undergraduate degree programmes.
He affirmed that the university was established to raise God fearing men and women with integrity and commitment who will redeem the battered image of the country and restore her lost glory.
According to him, the country’s leaders over the years have failed to lead by example but rather, have pursued their personal selfish interest which has reduced the country’s populace to beggars and never do well.
“Our goal is to raise a generation of leaders who will not only make a living but committed to make others live. We are raising men and women who will become pathfinders, pace setters and trail blazers in the society; men who shall redeem the battered image of the country as never do well and help this country restore her lost glory.
“As I listened to the National Anthem we have just rendered, I felt very sorry for this nation. We are living exactly contrary to the letters and spirit of the National Anthem. Justice and Peace where are they? Did we actually write the anthem? Almost every statement in that anthem has been grossly violated by the people who authenticated that we should be singing them. We sing freedom and we put ourselves in bondage”.
The General overseer of the Living Faith International Church, who admonished the matriculating students to take advantage of the high quality of facilities the school has to offer and commit themselves to excellence, pointed out that the Landmark University is determined to create an agro-industrial revolution that will sweep Nigeria and the African continent.
In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor of the school, Prof. Adeniyi Olayanju said Landmark University has witnessed remarkable progress and development in all areas of its pursuit. According to him, a total of 838 students matriculated for the undergraduate programmes while over 90 students were offering the post- graduate programmes.
